Rachel Baird Jensen

Hometown/State: Durango, Colorado
Education & Certifications:  Bachelor of Science in Environmental Biology and Chemistry from  Fort Lewis College in Durango Colorado, Wilderness First Responder, AIARE level one Avalanche certificate, “Utah River Captain”

Pertinent Experience: Naturalist guide in the mountain west including Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming and Utah. My dad was always taking me camping, rock hounding and mountain biking as a kid. I have always loved being active and spending time outside. One of my favorite outdoor experiences was with Colorado Fourteeners Initiative where I worked repairing trails at high elevations in the San Juan Mountains. Living out of a tent and working in the alpine tundra as a “high elevation gardener” led me to the life of adventure I have chosen to pursue.

Activities Rachel Guides: Hiking, Snowshoeing, GPS adventure races, Rafting

Inspiration/Reasons for Guiding: I love to open people’s eyes to the natural world around them. Not everyone is as lucky as I am to live and work so closely to wild places and because knowledge is power the more you can show people what is under their feet and above their heads the more the world opens up.

Interests/Hobbies/Personal Info/Random Facts About Rachel:  I love traveling and living in small communities where the mountains are close by. Medicinal and edible plants can be found at all elevations here in Utah and I enjoy a good afternoon of foraging and fly fishing. When time allows I wild craft medicinal salves and concoct herbal bitters for a perfectly mixed Manhattan. There is always plenty to stay busy with as I love kite skiing in the winter months, stand up paddle boarding with my 13 year old welsh corgi Piper in the summer, trail running and I hope to summit all 20something of Utah’s 13,000 foot peaks before I’m called to my next adventure.
